Witness Infrastructure: The Bottleneck of the AI Economy
For most of human history, civilization has been constrained by production.
We lacked enough:
- food
- energy
- transportation
- manufacturing
- communication
- computation
- skilled labor
Economic systems evolved primarily to solve scarcity through increasingly efficient production and coordination.
Industrial civilization perfected this model. Factories scaled physical output. Computers scaled symbolic output. Globalization scaled logistics. The modern enterprise became an engine for transforming labor into increasingly optimized production.
Artificial intelligence changes the nature of the constraint itself.
As AI systems become capable of performing vast amounts of symbolic labor — analysis, writing, coding, forecasting, negotiation, orchestration, and decision support — society enters a fundamentally different phase.
Production begins approaching abundance.
And when production ceases to be the primary bottleneck, civilization reorganizes around whatever remains scarce.
