From Accounting to Semantic Presence
Let me start with something simple:
Accounting didnât replace businessâit made it understandable.
Business existed long before accounting. People traded, made decisions, built organizations.
But as complexity increased, something became necessary:
A way to make activity legible, trustworthy, and scalable.
Accounting gave us that. It let us answer:
- What happened?
- What changed?
- Can we trust this?
And once we could answer those questions, everything scaled.

Now, something very similar is happening again.
But this time, itâs not just about financial activity.
Itâs about presence, decisions, and meaning inside systems.

Today, AI is being used everywhere:
- research
- reporting
- analysis
- decision support
Itâs increasing speed, capability, and reach.
But itâs also creating a new gap.
Because now we can act faster than we can understand what just happened.

If you ask:
- Why was this decision made?
- What transformed the inputs into this output?
- Who or what is actually responsible?
- Was this step allowed? (;consent đ)
You often donât get clean answers.
And thatâs not a failure of AI.
Itâs the same kind of gap we had before accounting.

Thereâs a deeper layer here.
Because whatâs actually happening is not just computation.
Itâs interaction between agents.
Human and machine. Human and human. System and system.
And at the core of all of those interactions is something very simple:
A moment of recognition. A mutual allowing.

So just like accounting created a system to track financial state,
We are beginning to need systems that can track:
- presence
- interaction
- transformation
- and trust
Not abstractlyâ
But in a way that can be:
- revisited
- understood
- and, when needed, explained

Because hereâs what doesnât change:
If something mattersâ
Someone will eventually ask:
âWhat happened here?â
And increasingly, the real question is:
âWhat happened between agents to produce this?â

Thatâs the shift.
Not from humans to AI.
But from:
outputs â to relationships that produce outputs

And if you come from an accounting mindset, this should feel familiar.
You already understand:
- traceability
- controls
- defensibility
Now that lens expands.

This wonât happen everywhere at once.
Most systems will remain opaque until they fail.
But in places where:
- decisions matter
- outcomes are challenged
- trust is required
Legibility will be rebuilt.

And just like before, it wonât replace what exists.
It will make it understandable.

Because scale has always depended on one thing:
The ability to make complex activity visible, shareable, and trusted.
