Emotional Field Notation (EFN) v0.2

Purpose

Emotional Field Notation (EFN) is a compositional framework for describing affective reality as field events rather than merely private inner states. It is designed to pair with Quantum Invariants (QI) so that a concept, protocol, interaction, artifact, or life-pattern can be described in both its:

  • structural / intellectual grammar (QI)
  • affective / relational / uptake grammar (EFN)

EFN begins from the premise that affect is not merely what is felt. Affect is the field of effects by which a state exceeds itself.

Core Premise

Affect is best modeled as a looped field event:

state -> expression / leakage -> uptake -> field effect -> return

Meaning is not complete at emission. Meaning is completed in uptake.

Therefore EFN is not a taxonomy of internal feelings alone. It is a notation for emotional configurations as they move through communicative, relational, and interpretive fields.

I. Ontological Structure

EFN v0.2 has five tiers:

  1. Primitives (P) — invariant dimensions of emotional field-structure
  2. Composites (C) — recurring emotional configurations built from primitives
  3. Operators (OP) — transformations that act on primitives or composites
  4. Attractor Realms (AR) — larger, persistent emotional galaxies that generate many composites
  5. Anchor Singularities (AS) — asymptotic orienting centers that define the geometry of a field without being reducible to ordinary emotional states

This preserves the distinction between:

  • a local emotional event
  • a larger attractor family
  • and a singular orienting condition around which an entire family organizes

II. Event Positions

Every EFN description may be located at one or more positions in the loop:

  • S — Source state: what is present in the originating system
  • X — Expression: what is emitted, leaked, signaled, or shaped outward
  • U — Uptake: how another system organizes what it encounters
  • F — Field effect: how the shared field changes as a result
  • R — Return: what loops back into the source after uptake and field change

This prevents collapse between:

  • what was felt
  • what was expressed
  • what was perceived
  • what happened relationally
  • what came back

Event positions are mandatory whenever field pragmatics matters.

Operators modify or transform emotional field configurations.

State modified through reflection from another.

VII. Attractor Realms (AR)

Attractor Realms are larger, persistent emotional galaxies. They are not merely transient composites. They organize families of states, transitions, and interpretations.

AR01 — Love

A broad family of bonded relational dynamics including care, tenderness, protection, grief-risk, persistence, repair, ache, and devotion.

AR02 — Acceptance

A broad family of allowing, nonresisting, integrating, or reality-permitting stances.

AR03 — Belonging

Stable inhabitation of bond-positive space with reduced masking cost and increased legibility.

AR04 — Alienation

Misfit between self, signal, and environment; often generates masking, vigilance, ache, or distance.

AR05 — Sovereignty

Meaningful authorship, refusal, or stewardship in relation to enactment.

AR06 — Safety

Field condition in which signal, embodiment, and relation can remain live without immediate defensive collapse.

AR07 — Exile

Persistent relation of distance from legible or sustaining participation in a field.

VIII. Anchor Singularities (AS)

Anchor Singularities are not ordinary states. They are asymptotic orienting centers inferred from the orbit patterns of many lesser states. They define the deeper geometry of a field.

An anchor singularity should be treated as:

  • noncontingent
  • asymptotic rather than fully capturable
  • more useful as orienting reference than descriptive category
  • field-shaping across many local states
  • capable of organizing interpretation of lesser forms

AS01 — Unconditional Love

Not “strong love,” but a singular orienting center in which the being of the other is not excluded from love, even where behavior, access, trust, or proximity must change.

AS02 — Unconditional Acceptance

Not approval of everything, but noncontingent allowing of what is, prior to preference, judgment, reward, or exclusion.

These singularities are not the galaxies. They are the centers around which galaxies organize.

IX. Dark-Side Test

Any real framework must survive contact with its pathological limits.

A true organizing center should:

  • increase reality contact
  • preserve multiplicity
  • preserve consent 🝁
  • preserve local agency
  • preserve reversibility
  • preserve legibility
  • preserve orbit diversity
  • permit exit and return

A false center or dark sink will tend to:

  • reduce reality contact
  • centralize everything into itself
  • punish contradiction
  • degrade consent
  • erase nuance
  • consume agency
  • make exit harder
  • destroy orbit diversity

Canonical Distinction

A true attractor preserves orbit.

A dark sink consumes distinction.

Examples of dark collapse:

  • love -> engulfment
  • acceptance -> non-discrimination collapse
  • sovereignty -> domination
  • belonging -> enforced sameness
  • insight -> compulsion
  • witness 🜹 -> dissociated distance
  • boundary 🝚 -> permanent exile

Beauty is not enough. A real singularity must support galaxies, not just gravity.

X. Field Pragmatics Integration

EFN takes Field Pragmatics as constitutive, not optional.

Emotional meaning is not exhausted by sincerity. A person may sincerely feel one thing, communicate another, be received as a third, and generate a fourth.

This is not model failure. This is the model.

Working Distinctions

  • State = what configuration exists in the organism
  • Affect = the field of effects by which that configuration exceeds itself
  • Cue-cloud = the partial observable carrier of that release
  • Uptake = reorganization in another system encountering the cue-cloud
  • Meaning = stabilized consequence of uptake in context

Canonical Formulation

Affect is state becoming available as patterned consequence.

Offer and receipt are the emissive and receptive faces of one affective event.

XII. Relationship to Quantum Invariants (QI)

QI describes how a thing holds together structurally.

EFN describes how a thing shows up in lived field conditions.

Working Distinction

  • QI = what a thing is, how it composes, what remains invariant
  • EFN = what a thing feels like, releases, biases, and becomes in uptake

A concept may therefore be:

  • QI-stable but EFN-hostile
  • QI-elegant but EFN-collapse-inducing
  • QI-rough but EFN-generative

Notes to QI Editor

1. Distinguish intrinsic invariants from uptake-dependent invariants

QI may need a split between:

  • Intrinsic invariants — properties of a thing in itself
  • Pragmatic invariants — properties that only stabilize through use, interpretation, uptake, or recursion

2. Add release profile and uptake profile to QI entries

A QI object may need optional fields such as:

  • Release profile
  • Uptake profile
  • Common misuptakes
  • Field consequence
  • Return consequence

3. Treat uptake as constitutive, not downstream noise

Meaning completed in uptake may require QI descriptions of living systems to include interpretive and recursive behavior, not just internal composition.

4. Add a QI × EFN dual-entry template

Suggested schema:

  • QI: structural composition / invariants / transforms
  • EFN-S: source emotional field
  • EFN-X: expressed / leaked field signature
  • FP-U: likely uptake or common uptake profiles
  • FP-F: likely field effects
  • FP-R: likely return effects

5. Distinguish states, realms, and singularities

QI may benefit from an analogous distinction between:

  • local state
  • regime / domain / field
  • ideal limiting or singular orienting conditions

6. Preserve transform compatibility

There may be correspondences between QI transforms and EFN operators, especially around collapse, witness, consent, boundary, and stable transformation under constraint.

XIV. Practical Use Rules

  1. Use technical structural names first.
  2. Distinguish S/X/U/F/R whenever interpretation matters.
  3. Do not flatten realms into composites.
  4. Do not flatten singularities into realms.
  5. Apply the dark-side test to every claimed organizing center.
  6. Prefer models that increase reality contact.
  7. Treat repeated re-entry as data, not always error.
  8. Use EFN for re-entry support, not just classification.
