A Context Trajectory from Radical Minimalism to Practical Terminus

Premise

We begin with ontological austerity:

There is experience occurring.

Nothing else is assumed. No external world, no body, no physics, no other minds. All such notions are models—useful only insofar as they compress experience, reduce surprise, or lower internal contradiction.

This document traces a trajectory from that premise to a practical terminus: a way of living, choosing, and acting that remains fully compatible with radical uncertainty while still being operationally effective.

I. Constraint as the First Structure

Experience is not arbitrary. It exhibits inertia.

Some transitions between experiential states are:

  • smooth
  • costly
  • risky
  • delayed
  • sometimes impossible

This regularity is captured by the notion of constraint.

Constraint is not prohibition. It is price.

We therefore treat constraints as elements of a cost field shaping which experiential transitions are cheap, expensive, or destabilizing.

This is the first stable attractor.

II. Location Without Place

Rather than assuming physical space, we introduce a derived variable:

L(t) — a persistent index over experience such that:

  • it has three effective degrees of freedom
  • it evolves continuously over time
  • its rate of change is bounded
  • transitions incur cost

This index behaves as if it were spatial location, because that model compresses experience well.

Crucially:

Movement is simply reindexing under constraint.

C is the maximum rate at which experiential reindexing can occur without rupture.

Exceeding C does not violate law; it breaks continuity.

Observed failure modes include:

  • injury narratives
  • identity fragmentation

Thus C functions as a stability envelope, not a sacred boundary.

IV. Energy as a Cost Signal

Energy is not substance. It is accounting.

It is the scalar cost attached to certain transitions, correlated with:

  • fatigue
  • recovery time
  • injury risk
  • long-term stability

Energy discourages reckless transitions.

It explains why:

  • imagination is cheap
  • embodiment is expensive
  • acceleration matters more than velocity

This reframing removes metaphysical baggage while preserving predictive power.

The “world” is not assumed to exist.

Instead:

The world is the field of constraints shaping experiential transitions.

This field is:

  • locally smooth
  • globally irregular

Objects, places, tools, and dangers are persistent attractors in this field.

They are not denied. They are demoted—from ultimate reality to durable structure.

  • nothing is forbidden
  • some transitions are catastrophically expensive
  • some costs are deferred
  • some prices compound

Miracles are not impossible. They are undercapitalized.

This dissolves false dichotomies:

  • freedom vs responsibility
  • realism vs imagination
  • determinism vs chaos

Agency becomes budgeted navigation.

VII. Introducing Other Agents (Carefully)

Other agents are not assumed as independent minds.

They are modeled as:

regions of the constraint field that respond to certain transitions as if they had preferences, memory, and agency.

Treating them as if they are real is extraordinarily predictive.

Ethics emerges not from metaphysics, but from cost coupling:

  • harming others increases future transition costs
  • cooperation lowers shared costs
  • trust smooths gradients

VIII. Consent as Cost Alignment

Consent is not moral ornamentation. It is systems engineering.

Consent occurs when:

  • two regions of the constraint field
  • mutually lower transition costs
  • by explicit alignment

Violations of consent do not break laws; they introduce hidden costs that surface later as instability, conflict, or collapse.

  6. Designs environments that make good choices cheap

Meaning is not discovered.

Meaning is the felt reduction of friction across time.

Because it never claims to be true.

Only useful.

And usefulness compounds.
